Sir Alastair Cook Entertains At Steventon Charity Evening

Members of Steventon Cricket Club and the wider village community were excited to welcome retired England captain Sir Alastair Cook for a memorable charity fundraising evening recently in aid of RABI who provide practical, financial and emotional support to farming people across England and Wales. 

Throughout the evening, Sir Alastair reflected on his outstanding international career, captaining England at the highest level, and life after professional cricket.

The audience also had the chance to put their own questions to Sir Alastair, prompting a mix of thoughtful reflections and memorable anecdotes. He shared his views on the recent incident involving Ben Stokes, spoke warmly about former England coach Andy Flower, whom he credited as his favourite coach, and explained how his early years as a chorister at St Paul's Cathedral taught him the discipline and composure to cope with nerves when performing in front of large crowds. Among the more light-hearted questions was one from an audience member asking about his famously enviable hair and whether he followed a special grooming regime or used any particular products. His answer, delivered with a smile, was simply: "No!"

The evening was made even more special when Steventon's U13 team arrived fresh from their victory on the village green over Cumnor, giving our junior players the chance to meet the cricketing legend himself and ask them their own questions!
